Homeless Community Connect offers homeless and disadvantaged people access to a range of services and support with the goal of making a difference to their lives and establishing new pathways and connections. It is a one day event which often provides opportunities for ongoing relationships.
The Project was a result of a taskforce chaired by Ben Wyatt MLA that examined homelessness in the Victoria Park area. The recommendation was to host a community event offering support and assistance to homeless persons within the local and surrounding areas. It was modelled on the annual City of Perth’s Homeless Community Connect in conjunction with Homeless Persons Week. The first one was held on August 3 2010, coordinated by Riverview Community Services at Victoria Park. The service providers were involved and over 300 visitors attended the centre. The event is funded entirely by donations and in kind support.
